Amazon released Cloud Drive and Cloud Player, cloud based services that enable customers to store and play music in the cloud. The Cloud Drive allows you to upload your existing music library and gives you 5GB of free storage for any type of digital file. Paid plans exist as well, starting at $20 a year for 20GB of storage. New Cloud Player allows you to play music on Android devices, Mac or PC, while on the go.
“We’re excited to take this leap forward in the digital experience,” Bill Carr, Amazon’s VP of Movies and Music, said in a statement.
“The launch of Cloud Drive, Cloud Player for Web, and Cloud Player for Android eliminates the need for constant software updates as well as the use of thumb drives and cables to move and manage music,” he said.
Digital music bought from Amazon MP3 store will be automatically stored in the Cloud Drive free of charge. Also, if you buy an Amazon MP3 album, you will get 20GB of free storage. Users can easily upload their music library to their Cloud Drive. Files can be stored in AAC or MP3 formats and will be uploaded in the original bit rate.
With Cloud Player, users can access their music on any computer with an Internet access. Cloud Player for Web supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari for Mac, and Chrome.
Cloud Player for Android is bundled into the new version of the Amazon MP3 App. It includes the full Amazon MP3 Store and the mobile version of Cloud Player. The application enables users to play music stored on their Cloud Drive as well as the music stored on their device. The features include the ability to search and browse by artist, album or song, create playlists and download music from Cloud Drive.
