The latest version of Skype, 5.5 beta for Windows announced on Monday, comes with even deeper integration with Facebook adding more features of the most popular social network.
Previously, Skype included features that enabled users to see their Facebook friends’ news feeds from within Skype, update their own status, place calls to their Facebook friends and send SMS messages. However, there was not an option to IM Facebook contacts. The new version of Skype for Windows will allow users to instant message their Facebook friends directly from Skype.
“You can now instant message your Facebook friends directly from Skype, helping you stay connected with the people that matter the most to you. Simply use the new Facebook contacts tab within Skype to see when a Facebook friend you want to chat with is online and then start an IM conversation right from within,” Skype wrote in a blog post.
The new “Facebook Contact Tab” allows users to see their Facebook contacts list. Skype 5.5 beta will also allow users to “like” and comment on friend’s Facebook status updates without logging into Facebook.
The new version also comes with a new call control toolbar with redesigned graphic icons, and improvements to the saving of a phone number in the “Call Phones” section. Visual improvements are also made to placing a call on hold.
