What started as an idea to create a little neighborhood steak house has turned into one of the more iconic restaurants in Phoenix.
Texaz Grill owner Steve Freidkin recalled the discussion he had with then-business partner Jim Mitchell in 1985, which focused on the possibility of creating a restaurant that featured a well-crafted menu with authentic Texas-style comfort food.
A few months later, they realized their dream, and Texaz Grill has been filling patrons’ cravings for Southwestern beef and poultry ever since.
“Our philosophy has always been to serve a quality product at a reasonable price,” Freidkin said. “It sounds cliche, I know, but those are the words we have lived by.”
Most of the restaurant’s features — how the dishes are prepared, the eclectic atmosphere and welcoming vibe — have changed very little since the early years.
But Mitchell has retired.

The uber-conservative and MSNBC pundit hasnt been on air since publishing his incendiary new book — and may not be back at all
The pairing of pundit Pat Buchanan, one of the nation’s most recognizable paleoconservatives, and liberal-leaning MSNBC has always been odd. And now the cable news channel has put Buchanan on indefinite leave. The apparent trigger: Buchanan’s rabble-rousing viewpoints in his new book Suicide of a Superpower, which has chapters titled “The End of White America” and “The Death of Christian America.” Since the book’s release, the former GOP presidential candidate has appeared on the network just once, a promotional spot on Sean Hannity’s program. “Because of the content of the book, I didn’t think it should be part of the national dialogue,” MSNBC President Phil Griffin has said, adding Saturday that there’s still no decision on whether Buchanan will be allowed back on the network. Each two-night class will cover personal finance, home loans, mortgages and more.
